Servant Leadership Homework: Due 10/3 – Self Paced

Based on the reading and discussion in the applicable lecture, answer the following questions concerning 2 Samuel 16:23-17:14: Who gave the best advice? Whose advice was followed? Why? (Hints: Who was left brain and who was right brain in their advice?  How was metaphor used to advantage?)

Based on viewing the video clip from Henry V answer the following questions: What did Henry V say & do to get his men to follow him into battle? What images did he evoke? What pictures did he “paint?”

Based the video clip reading and applicable lecture on Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech review the text of the entire speech and highlight/circle the images and word pictures that were used … the metaphorical and figurative language. Based on this, answer the following questions: Describe why was this so powerful? How was Dr. King able to paint the picture of the current reality … and the desired future?  Why does this still resonate today?

Based on the discussion in the applicable lecture explain (in 250-300 words) why, in your view, Christ’s communication was so powerful.

Based on the following scenario how would you communicate “above the line” (purpose & philosophy vs. policies, procedures and practices) to cast a compelling vision for the task?

• • Scenario: Volunteers are needed to help collect, organize and distribute food in support of a local food banks’ goal to feed over 1,000 homeless persons and needy families for the next three months.
