Freddy Villarreal

Freddy Villarreal

Founder/Instructor

In October of 2004, I had the privilege of joining along side 26 other people to start Freedom Life Church and have been here ever since. My energy is primarily spent focusing on the vision of our church, coordinating our preaching team, and supporting our Kingdom initiatives. I have a passion for bringing churches together for Kingdom advancement.  One example of this passion is that I also have the honor of serving as an Associate Pastor at my mentor pastor’s church, The Chapel, a multi-campus church located in the northern suburbs of Chicago.

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biblical Studies and a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership from Liberty University. My wife Jen and I live in Yorktown, VA with four of our five children: Parker, Eli, Kaelin and Ty. Our oldest son and amazing daughter-in-law, Kyle and Jenny, live in Richmond.

Cheryl You

Cheryl You

Coordinator of Coaching/Faculty

Born and raised in Singapore, I moved to the Hampton Roads in 2016. I have served on staff at churches in Singapore and in Norfolk since 2008. For more than 20 years, I’ve led and taught worship, mentored young leaders and developed ministry leadership teams, spoken and taught at conferences, ministry schools, and churches in Asia and the U.S. I get excited about pouring into leaders, empowering women, building community, and seeing people grow in maturity and reach their full potential for Christ. I have a Bachelor’s in Materials Engineering, a Masters of Divinity from Regent University, and I am currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree in New Testament Context at Northern Seminary.

A self-proclaimed contemplative-charismatic and theology-nerd, I am always happy getting lost in a book and even though I’ve been involved in worship and music for more than half my life, I feel most connected to God in silence and in nature (especially if there is a beach and a sunrise involved). Things that make me happy: running, working out, listening to live jazz, hoarding books, and making things with my hands. My husband, Jasper, and I live in Norfolk with our three children, and our three cats. We love hosting and often have people from several different nations gathered around our table, and there is always room for more!

Amy Kimball

Amy Kimball

Faculty

Amy has enjoyed serving in many ways at her local church over the years, including directing a leadership and discipleship internship, teaching Bible courses and small groups, and is currently leading the children’s ministry with her husband Jordan.  Prior to her family being stationed with the Air Force at Langley AFB in Hampton, VA in 2013, she and Jordan enjoyed two years of living in Anchorage, AK.  It was in these mountains that she discovered her love of theology, discipleship, and teaching God’s word as she served as a missionary for the Evangelical Covenant Church.  She holds a Master of Christian Ministry from Wayland Baptist University, a Master of Divinity from Denver Seminary, and is currently pursuing a PhD in the New Testament.  She is a mother to three children whom she stays home with and homeschools.  She also founded a homeschool co-op in 2020 with a friend, in an effort to find other families to socialize with during an isolated time in our world.  Her family enjoys camping in their trailer all over the East Coast and taking frequent trips back to Alaska to visit friends and dream about their future there someday.
